Today we’re going to talk about some strange facts about North Korea — the country that surely no one would wish to be from or even visit.

Urinating in public is forbidden

This is a phenomenon we unfortunately see from many young people… when they get desperate, they run to any wall. But there in North Korea, the punishment is extremely harsh, which is… scissors.

No internet

The internet is not available to everyone. It is only allowed for a limited number of high-ranking state officials. Not only that, but the idea of freedom of expression and opinion does not exist. Anyone who expresses an opinion criticizing the government may be tried and executed immediately. Television only has a few channels, all of which are completely controlled by the government.

Punishment for breaking the law

Punishments there are very severe. The violation might be something simple or trivial, yet the punishment could be execution. Not only that — some punishments are not limited to the lawbreaker alone; the entire family of the person who broke the law may be imprisoned, including parents, grandparents, and even children.

No Friday holiday

They work seven days a week, and there is no such thing as a Friday off. As soon as you finish secondary school, the government immediately provides you with a job.

Hashish is not considered drugs

The punishment for using drugs there is execution. Strangely, they do not consider hashish a drug. On the contrary, it is commonly circulated among people and used normally. Apparently, their leader’s mind is always high, haha.

We are in the year 2018, and they are in the year 106

Exactly. They operate using a special calendar and considered the year in which the leader “Kim” died as the beginning of that calendar. The year 1912 is considered year 1 for them, and now they are in year 106.

The strongest army in the world

The North Korean army is ranked number one in the world, with 7,700,000 soldiers. Not only that, there is a very large gap between it and the second place, which is the U.S. army with 1,500,000 soldiers.

Social classes

There is no such thing as everyone being equal in rights. Every family has a classification. There are 51 classifications based on political, economic, and social criteria. For example, if you apply for a political position, they first check your family’s classification number to see whether you are even allowed to apply for that job or not.

Your wife after marriage is different from before marriage

Before marriage, girls are allowed to have long hair. But once a woman gets married, her hair must be short, based on a government decision. Men as well are not allowed by the government to have hair longer than 5 centimeters.
