Who among us still has the heart, when standing in a supermarket, to reach for a jar of Nutella—even the smallest size? Unfortunately, this is one of the consequences of the currency devaluation. Do you know how much Nutella costs now?! The small glass jar is 70 EGP, after being 25 EGP just a year ago. And it’s not even easy to find anymore—Nutella is almost disappearing, which is normal since demand has dropped significantly.
So what’s the solution now? Do we treat our Nutella addiction, or what?
Many Nutella alternatives have appeared in supermarkets lately, with different prices—some are locally made, others imported.
Let me tell you about the most important ones, ranked from best to worst:
1️⃣ Moltobella
This brand has been around for a long time, and many people bought it even when Nutella was available. The packaging is similar to Nutella, and it’s not very cheap, but reasonable.
180g jar: 25 EGP
You could say it’s a high-quality copy of Nutella—and it’s Egyptian-made.
2️⃣ Nussa
German-made. It’s more expensive than Moltobella, but Moltobella is still preferred since the price difference doesn’t reflect a big quality improvement.
Small jar: 35 EGP
3️⃣ Vitrac
The taste is decent, and the hazelnut flavor is noticeable compared to many other brands. Made by the Egyptian company Vitrac.
400g jar: 50 EGP
4️⃣ Rose Garden
The chocolate flavor is very acceptable, but the hazelnut flavor isn’t very strong. The price is attractive and fair for the quality.
350g jar: 28 EGP
There’s also a Dutch version for 35 EGP.
Available only at Fathalla Market.
5️⃣ Cremita
This is the lowest in quality. Produced by El Rashidi El Mizan company.
Small jar: 19 EGP
There’s also a cheaper version called Cookie, but its quality is even lower.
Of course, true Nutella lovers will never be satisfied with anything but Nutella itself. But if you go to the supermarket and can’t find it, we wanted to tell you what alternatives you can buy.
