None of us likes waking up early, and we all wished our job was a night shift so you could wake up comfortably and sleep comfortably too. Of course, the whole problem is actually us, because we don’t know how to organize our sleep schedule, especially on weekends. And when Saturday starts, you go to work annoyed and wishing you could go back and finish your sleep.
So here we have to talk about some mistakes we make and think are normal, but they actually affect your energy a lot throughout the day. What are they?
Snoozing the Alarm
I don’t think anyone wakes up from their phone alarm on the first ring. As soon as you feel the phone sound getting louder and that you're about to wake up, you grab it and hit snooze for ten minutes to get a little more sleep. As if those ten minutes are what will really make the difference for us!
It turns out that snoozing is the most dangerous thing we do, and it doesn’t let us wake up refreshed. Why? Because when you snooze, you enter a sleep cycle that you won’t be able to finish properly, and that affects your mood all day.
So skip the snooze, know the time you want to wake up, and set your alarm once.
Facebook or Email
Many of us, as soon as we wake up and can barely open our eyes — while our brain isn’t even fully awake — grab the phone and scroll through Facebook posts or open email to see what we missed while sleeping.
This also affects our energy because you're straining your brain and possibly throwing it into problems when it’s not ready yet. So please wait at least an hour before touching your phone when you first wake up.
Coffee on an Empty Stomach
When the body first wakes up, it releases a hormone called cortisol — the stress hormone — and this happens during the first two hours after waking. This hormone regulates your energy throughout the day.
If you drink a cup of coffee on an empty stomach, it makes the body release less of this hormone and rely only on caffeine.
Breakfast
Breakfast is very important for focus throughout the day. Most of us pay more attention to dinner late at night — which is completely unhealthy — and ignore breakfast.
Even if you don’t have time, you can eat anything, even something simple, so you go to work alert and keep irritability away.
Fix Your Sleep at Night
When you finish your day and go to bed, stay away from Facebook a bit so you don’t find yourself sleeping late. Try to train your body to sleep at a specific time.
And if you can’t fall asleep quickly, read this article — there are a few tricks that will make you sleep as soon as your head hits the pillow.
Exercise
Exercise stimulates blood circulation and removes laziness in general. Plus, your psychological state is always better as long as you practice sports.
Even if you can’t exercise daily, try at least once a week — it’s definitely better than staying completely away from exercise. Whether you go to the gym, go running, or even play football with your friends.
